Our tween grew very tall very fast which meant she was also lean (NEVER say “skinny”). As you know, it is hard to find clothes for these kids. Therefore, most pants have an adjustable waist. Some tags say “Slim”. Other dresses and blouses have a zipper or a sash to cinch the waist. None have been altered. Some brands, like Ralph Lauren, suit an athletic frame well.
